Operations Engineer (2024-now)

I transitioned to an individual contributor position within the newly formed Sparta Commodities Engineering Operations department, focusing on establishing processes and creating internal tools to support the company’s Engineering organization. This position allows me to contribute at a broader scale, improving coordination and efficiency across teams while also benefiting other areas like Product and Customer Success.

Engineering Team Manager (2023-2024)

I joined Sparta Commodities during its transition from a fast-growing startup to a scale-up, contributing both technical expertise and leadership skills as part of this evolution. During my time, the company grew from a few dozen to over a hundred professionals. I took on a managerial challenge by leading a team of skilled backend and frontend engineers, as well as QA specialists, collaborating closely with product managers and designers.
Our team was responsible for building and maintaining several key revenue-generating verticals:
We followed an Agile methodology, focusing on iterative development to adapt our work to customer feedback, evolving workload demands, and business needs. This approach included rearchitecting and refactoring processes to ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term performance.

R&D Project Manager (2021-2022)

When I joined Insikt—a Barcelona-based (but fully remote) start-up—I took charge of R&D projects focused on countering online risks like terror, crime, and cyber threats. The company’s flagship product, Spotlight, uses AI-powered methods to gather and process text and multimedia from diverse sources (open-source intelligence traditional media social media) in near-real time, detecting suspicious content through proprietary NLP and ML technologies.
In this role, I managed multidisciplinary projects, translated user needs into clear requirements, and coordinated collaborative efforts among multiple stakeholders. I also led the design and validation of operational scenarios and user interfaces for AI-based smart-city solutions and radicalization detection platforms. Serving as the point of contact for 20+ partnerships meant occasional international travel to maintain those relationships.
Key Projects & Achievements
  • Social Media Detection Tool
    • Adapted state-of-the-art algorithms to filter noise and highlight hidden insights for European municipalities. Led pilot tests with end-users and improved the tool based on their feedback.
  • Smart Cities Toolkit Integration
    • Coordinated the integration of multiple standalone tools to deliver greater value for end-users and platform owners. Defined a user interface tailored to municipal needs for the smart cities toolkit.
  • Counter-Radicalization Platform
    • Directed the specifications and system architecture, gathering and refining user requirements through workshops with both end-users and technology providers.

Subject Matter Expert (Big Data in GCP) (2020-2021) / Frontline TSR Data Engineer (2019)

I joined Webhelp—a multinational specializing in customer experience solutions—as a Data Engineer while studying for a postgraduate course in Big Data and Data Science. My team supported the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Big Data suite, troubleshooting customer issues and applying my growing theoretical knowledge in real-world situations.
After a few months, I was promoted to Subject Matter Expert in Big Data, overseeing a squad of fifteen Data Engineers. I provided guidance on complex cases, ensured our support met Google’s high-quality standards, and maintained best practices. Collaborating daily with Google engineers taught me a great deal about product improvements, data engineering, and operations within fast-paced tech environments.

Head of Innovation (2017 to 2019) / Innovation Manager (2017)

I joined BMAT—a fast-growing Barcelona-based music technology startup—assisting the Head of Innovation Department during a leadership transition. The company, which grew from fewer than 50 employees to over 120 during my time there, specializes in proprietary technology that offers software solutions and services to amplify value across the music industry. Our department focused on transferring R&D innovations to customer-facing products.
After a few months, I took over the Innovation Department. My responsibilities included overseeing all ongoing projects and identifying opportunities for growth through new collaborations with industry stakeholders, service providers, universities, and public institutions. With an annual R&D investment exceeding one million euros, I also managed budgeting, forecasting, and the department’s P&L, reporting directly to the CFO. About 20% of my time involved traveling across Europe for consortium meetings, project reviews, hackathons, and networking.
